What is Church? The word church comes from a Greek word "ecclesia," which literally means, "called out ones." It was used in Ancient Greece to refer to leaders and responsible citizens who could be called upon to make decisions or to fight for the country. Later the word was used to describe other assemblies.
In Christian usage the word refers to all who have put their faith in Jesus and have surrendered their lives to Him in service. Every true Christian is part of the Church, the called out ones of Jesus.
The Church assembles itself in local congregations all over the world each week. We here at Mountain View represent one expression of the universal Church. We have committed ourselves together in love and service here in this place.
While we welcome and encourage all to come and see and be a part of our church gathering, the Church itself is made up only of professing Christians who have committed themselves to one another.
